CHETEK, Wis. (WJMC) — For City of Chetek residents, a police funding referendum is on Tuesday’s ballot.
The Chetek Police Department is the focus of a referendum residents will be voting on during Tuesday’s election. If the measure is successful, the Department will receive added funds to not only support current officers, but to also hire a new officer and another full-time public works employee. Chetek mayor Jeff Martin discusses the importance of a well-staffed police department.
“We are wanting to maintain and remain a twenty-four seven police department. So if this measure is successful, that will guarantee that we can do that. But if it is not successful, you know, it’ll mean, really, that Chetek PD will be out of service from time to time. Because we just don’t have the manpower,” Martin said.
Further details about the referendum can be found on the City of Chetek’s website. Residents with questions can also contact City Hall at 715-924-4838.
