MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — A new take on an old scam.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office says the use of artificial intelligence in telephone scams is becoming more common, specifically the Grandparents scam has become even more believable. This scam targets older people and leads them to believe a grandchild is in some sort of distress and needs money. Authorities say scammers are now taking online videos and using AI to create a recording using the person’s voice.
Not only do we have to be on alert on our phones, the sheriff’s office adds we should also use more caution in what we’re sharing on social media.
