MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Tribal advocates were at the State Capitol Tuesday to introduce a campaign called Wisconsin Wellness to promote the medicinal uses of cannabis.
Rob Pero is the founder of a Native American hemp company in Cambridge named Canndigenous.
“We’ve been sort of stuck in the middle of Prohibition Island here between these three other states surrounding us. Our citizens are having to make a choice of whether to really commit a crime to get their medicine and bring it back to the state,” Pero said.
Democrats in the Wisconsin legislature have supported legalizing recreational use, while a recent Republican bill in the state Assembly creating state-run medical marijuana dispensaries died in the state Senate.
