HAYWARD, Wis. (WJMC) — An early Friday morning crash has killed one man and left three with minor to severe injuries.
Sawyer County Sheriff Doug Mrotek said a Ford Explorer Sport Trac was speeding on Highline Road, near the intersection of Williams Road, south of Hayward. The driver, 20-year-old David Flores, of Hayward, lost control of the SUV and it rolled several times in the east ditch.
Three passengers, 19-year-old Reese J. Frederick, a 17-year-old woman and a 16-year-old woman, were ejected. Frederick died at the scene. The two women were transported to a Minnesota hospital with lifethreatening injuries.
The driver, Flores, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. He was arrested on a preliminary charge of second-degree recklessly endangering safety.
The sheriff’s department said speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
