TREGO, Wis. (WJMC) — The Washburn County Sheriff’s Office and the National Park Service are searching for a missing kayaker on the Namekagon River.
Washburn County Sheriff Dennis Stuart said 19-year-old Gunnur Hess, of Sarona, planned to launch his Pelican kayak from County Highway K, near Trego, on Friday. He told his family that he would call to be picked up later downstream, but his family has not heard from him.
Authorities believe he was on the river, but no signs of him have turned up during searches. The kayak has a grey top and white bottom.
The sheriff’s office is not asking the public to search the river, but if anyone has information on the whereabouts of Hess, contact the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office at 715-468-4720.
