MADISON, Wis. (WRN/AP) — Marijuana has been reclassified at the federal level, but here in Wisconsin a Democratic lawmaker doesn’t expect much to change at the Capitol in Madison.

“If there is something happening behind the scenes, it’s happening way behind the scenes, because we haven’t heard anything about that and that’s common to what we see things will pass one house and then die in the other,” said Milwaukee Democrat, Senator LaTonya Johnson.

Johnson says placing cannabis in the Schedule III category makes sense.

A limited medical marijuana bill failed to advance in the legislature last session, due to strong opposition by Johnson’s Republican colleagues.

In an unrelated story, marijuana plants were found growing in a flower garden at the capitol last week. It was not known how they got there, but it appeared they were intentionally planted.

The plants were removed.
