RICE LAKE, Wis. (WJMC) — Marshfield Medical Center in Rice Lake has put a pause on birthing services.

As of May 1, Marshfield Medical Center-Rice Lake will be temporarily ceasing labor and delivery services.

According to the Marshfield Clinic Health System, the pause is the result of staffing limitations that support the service. Marshfield vice president of medical affairs Doctor Brandon Parkhurst says that the closure of HSHS hospitals in western Wisconsin have led to resources being spread thin throughout the health system.

In the meantime, affected patients will be notified and have their care transitioned to Marshfield Medical Center-Eau Claire. Marshfield expects the pause to remain in effect from thirty to sixty days.
