MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Democratic Governor Tony Evers wants Republicans who control the Legislature to release $125 million in funding to remediate the harms from “forever chemicals.”
Earlier this month, he called the Joint Finance Committee into special session on that. Tuesday saw just the panel’s four Democrats show up.
“Are we angry about that? And am I angry about that? I’ll just speak for myself. The answer is yes, we should absolutely be getting that money out the door,” Evers said of the meeting and funding. “It’s there. And by the fact that the Republicans on the committee are no shows means that more people are going to suffer.”
Evers vetoed a Republican PFAS bill which he said took polluters off the hook. Republicans don’t want the Wisconsin DNR in charge of allocating cleanup money.
Evers indicates his next step may be a lawsuit.
