MADISON, Wis (WRN) — If you’re planning to dig in your yard this spring, make the call first.
Alliant Energy spokesperson Chris Caporale says the call is free.
“The most important thing is to remind customers to call 811 before they start digging.”
Crews will respond within a couple of days to ensure your work can proceed safely.
“They’ll come out, mark all your underground lines. And that could be their gas lines, electric lines, to just make sure everyone’s safe. You don’t want to hit any of those and not be aware of where they are in your yard.”
Use hand tools if you must dig within 18 inches of marked lines.
